April is #MonthoftheMilitaryChild

April is #MonthoftheMilitaryChild and AFAS is highlighting stories of how we support Air Force and Space Force families as they navigate the unique challenges that come with raising kids in the military.

AFAS’ Emergency Financial Assistance Program helps families like the Diibons in San Angelo, Texas. When 12-year-old Damien Diibon began to need a power wheelchair to get around independently, AFAS was able to help the family pay for a wheelchair lift for their van. Their story can be viewed below.

Visit our website, AFAS.org, to access our support programs, or make a donation to help a family like the Diibons.

Katherine’s Story: Education Support in Action

“This scholarship will go a long way toward helping me pay for my college education and it is sincerely appreciated.”

Katherine Lambert completed the Hap Arnold Grant Program application in 2023 and received a Merit Scholarship from AFAS. She is studying psychology at Colorado State University and hopes to become a Clinical Psychologist and serve her country by helping provide mental health services to people in need.

Air Force Aid Society is proud to help Air Force and Space Force children like Katherine to achieve their educational and career goals.

Bundles for Babies

Did you know that AFAS provides $100 for the purchase of baby essentials to all new parents who complete a Bundles for Babies class through their Military & Family Readiness Center?

This popular class teaches new parents basic parenting skills and essential financial skills to help them budget for their new baby, from birth to college. It is also a great opportunity to connect with other expectant parents on base, make friends, and exchange information.

Contact your Military & Family Readiness Center to find out if this program is offered at your installation.
